Man is this going to be a boring book review!! While I’ve read 7 books, they are all from the same series so I’ll just be talking about all of them as one.
I’m not sure how I got hooked into this particular series as it’s not really my normal genre. But I’m telling you it’s pretty much non-stop action. Each book is a pretty quick read and they definitely leave you hanging at the end of each one so you HAVE to read the next.
Ok, so what’s this book series?? It’s called Edge of Survival by Kyla Stone. The very first book starts off hardcore! Something has happened in Michigan, or the entire U.S., or the world?? You don’t know to the extent but the power is gone, cars have stopped running, planes have crashed, it’s total mayhem. In the midst of this a woman who has been held captive for 5 years finds herself with an unlocked door (remember the power is out so all of the electronics that were keeping her jailed are gone). Hannah is able to escape but it’s the dead of winter and all she has is some basic winter gear and a dog named Ghost who had been chained up for a very long time but she freed. Of course the man who had been holding her captive quickly discovers that she has fled and he’s after her. From then on (and for several of the follow on books) it’s game on…cat and mouse style chase with Hannah receiving some help along the way. All she wants to do is make her way back home to the small town of Fall Creek to her husband and young son. Each book is an immediate follow on and they must be read in order. Book two introduces us to the husband, the young son and a edge 16 year old. The action in book two is happening simultaneous as the action in book one. It’s interesting to get a totally different perspective of the same events. Books 3-7 take it from there and move the story forward.
It’s hard to even imagine what our world would be like if we suddenly had nothing that we had before. How would we cope? Who would survive and who would not. Between the seven books, you get to know Hannah, Liam, Noah and all of the others in great detail. Some remain strong, some fall from grace. I never thought I’d get into a story line like this one but it’s been a great read. I’m sorry there isn’t a book 8!
Oh and the best part? The entire series is available for free through Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program. Yes, that means you have to read on your Kindle but for those who enjoy e-readers, this is perfect.
